So you’ve just moved into a new home and
the thought of unpacking is overwhelming. We’ve been there! To help you
prioritize and organize here are a few tips for getting started that are sure
to ease the pain of unpacking. Staying organized is one of the many challenges
in and of itself. Fortunately, there are things that you can do to help.
Make Time
You will have to make time in your
schedule to unpack. If you can, we suggest taking a few days off from work.
Many people will spend their evenings and weekends unpacking. However, you will
likely need more time than that. You may also want to arrange for a babysitter
to watch your children.
If you are unable to take time off from
work, don’t fret. You can still designate time in your schedule to unpack. Set
a daily goal and stick to it. For example, you can set a goal to unpack four
boxes per day.
Unpack the Essential Boxes
The essential box should be the last box
that you pack and the first box that you unpack. It may take you several weeks
for you to completely unpack. However, you will at least have the key things
that you need. This makes your first few nights in the new home a lot easier.
Unpack a Room at One Time
Bedrooms and bathrooms first. After all
of that moving, you’ll need a comfy place to sleep, right? Make sure you have
clean sheets, pillows, and comforters ready to go. The kitchen will likely be
the most complicated room to unpack. Takeout should be your go to in the
meantime.
The living room or family room is the
area that you can save for last. Keep in mind that if you have multiple people
in your household, then you can have each person take one room.
Hire Professional Movers
Professional movers may not only help
you pack and move your belongings, but they can also help you unpack. This
saves time, protects belongs, and gives you access to the necessary equipment
needed to move. Make sure to hire a professional moving company with good reviews.
Last but not least, no electronics for a
couple of days! These tiny distractions are sure to slow down your work flow.
It’s important to stay focused while cleaning and organizing. You can do it and
hopefully the tips above help! Feel free to comment on your “unpacking order”
