Transforming Floral Arrangements You Received To Last Twice As Long

Some of us  might have received  flowers for the  Holidays, Birthdays  or we are the winner at a party and won that big beautiful centerpiece in the middle of our table. Yes these centerpieces are beautiful and look magnificent but they usually do not last long because  they are so big and the water   source  is a foam block and  the  flowers  are  not in  direct  water. When  you wake  up in  the  morning sometimes a lot  of   the flowers  have  died. Don't  throw your centerpiece  out, transform it.

I have all the tips you need to make your centerpiece refreshed and will last twice as long. If you do not want to take apart your centerpiece which I do suggest you do, add water daily. The flowers are inside a floral foam that expands when it is emerged into water. When a floral designer starts to design a centerpiece the flowers are cut and inserted into the foam. The foam drys out very quickly and you should put water in the bottom of the container as often as it needs it.

The best way to transform your dying centerpiece is to first get rid of any leaves or flowers that are dead. The stems of all flowers you are going to put into another vase need to be cut on a slant. You need to re cut all the flowers before making a new centerpiece.

The next day my flowers started to fall and droop

You will need a few supplies they are:
  • Floral foam for fresh flowers
  • The same dish as the original flowers were in
  • Waterproof Floral tape
  • Sharp Scissor or cutting knife (use knife only if you have done this before)

I took out all the flowers I am going to make a new centerpiece. Got rid of the flowers that were no good. Cut all stems at the bottom and put them to side. Started with a fresh block of foam inserted in the same dish. Used the waterproof floral tape and wrapped around both sides of the foam so it stays secure.

Place a few taller flowers on the top with some greenery. I had a lot of twigs that looks so nice so added them all around. Continue around and place the fresh cut flowers spacing the different type of flowers around the centerpiece. Add the rest of the greenery and now you have a new centerpiece that will look amazing.

Water daily or as needed. Your centerpiece will be smaller since you removed some of the dead flowers. You now have healthy flowers that were re cut and placed into a new foam that should last anywhere from 4-7 days depending on the type of flowers.

  1. My grandmother used to do flower arrangements for our center table using bowls, baskets, vases, etc. The fresh scent adds a homey, pleasant atmosphere in the living room, and it would also be great if we make it last longer. :)

  5. Thank you so much for these tips, I have to admit I am not very good at arranging flowers, I'm awful for cutting a couple of stems to short so they don't get enough water, so I will have to try this next time.

  15. It's so disappointing receiving a flower arrangement that ends up dying within the next couple of days... It's good to know that new life can be brought to them with some re-arranging and better care!
