Police Officer's The Contradictions

When you see a police officer driving along side of you how does it make you feel ? Do you feel uncomfortable? Intimidated? Safe? Feel like you did something wrong?

Everyone has their own feelings about police officers. I know if I am driving I get a little nervous when a police officer is driving behind me or alongside me. I spoke to many friends and family on this subject and 80% said they were nervous when an officer was along side them or in back of them while they were driving.

It seems many people are intimidated amongst officers when it shouldn't be that way. Who is the first person you call if you had a problem at home or in a situation where you felt you were going to be harmed. You would call the police and you would want them there as soon as possible

Police Officers are here to protect us. If we see an officer late at night or if we were walking to our car in a parking lot we of course would feel safe. Why is there such a contradiction?

The true fact is police officers are here to “protect” us. They put their life on the line to help our community in all situations.

We receive those dreaded tickets, or in some cases a speeding ticket. We get mad but honestly whose fault is it > our own.

My son is a NYPD Officer. I have learned so much about officers in such a short amount of time. He goes out everyday to protect us, stop crime, arrest those that have done wrong. I can go on and on. We all know this but when you are a "mother" of an officer it is very difficult. If he makes an arrest he is at the precinct many hours after his shift filling out paperwork.

As I see how hard of a job it is to be a police officer, they deserve respect. Their job is very difficult and they put their life on the line for us. Yes there is also "bad seeds" but isn't that with every profession ? Think about it. They are there to protect us and our families.

  2. Just like anything else in the world, there are good cops and bad cops and it just so happens that right now, the not so good ones have been headlining. That doesn't mean that cops are all the same though. We should start ending the hate.

  3. It's not healthy what we're doing to these cops. And it's not going to make things better at all. We just have to accept that the cops who were featured in the news are different and that not every cop thinks like them!

  4. While there's been a lot of police brutality going on lately I do agree that not every cop is the same. It's a scary world and there's bad people everywhere, but it's also wrong to generalize

  7. Oh, the last time I saw a police officer I have mixed feelings. I feel nervous even if I have no mistake and at the same time, I feel secured.

  10. Oh, there are lots of things happening on my country. There are many extrajudicial killings but the police wash their hands as some civilians are the suspects.

  11. I know I am always nervous I have made a traffic violation or something. So much respect for cops, my dad was a military police officer, its a hard job to do.

  12. I for sure get the same feeling every time I see a cop car when I'm driving. Pretty crazy, considering I'm in my 40's and have never even had a ticket. (I probably shouldn't say that!)

  13. Either we feel save or threatened, police officers are heroes as they are trained to protect us. Sadly though, some men in uniform use their power to go beyond their noble service.

  16. I do get nervous when I am driving as I feel I could have done something wrong by mistake! I agree they are here to help us and they deserve so much respect for doing one of those hard jobs to handle!

  17. I do get nervous when officers ride beside me. Officers who are doing their jobs accordingly do deserve respect. Also, the people they are interacting with on a daily basis deserve respect, as well, if it is given to them.

  18. Cynthia, I am the daughter of a retired NYPD officer and the cousin of many who are on or retired because they are either 9-11 survivors living with the aftermath. I have another family member who was shot in an ambush a few years ago. I have such respect for what the Police do for us. I hope the country can get back to a place where there is peace and understanding and respect for all! Thank you to your son for his service. My Dad says, a different world now.

  19. I always get nervous when a cop is next to me, it's such an odd thing because I know I'm not doing anything wrong. But at the same time I always feel safe when they're their.

  21. I think most people get a little nervous when a cop is behind them just for fear of getting a speeding ticket. But when I see them at the mall or park they make me feel safe. I was always taught to respect cops, they risk their lives to keep us safe. =)
